  1. Hi my self and partner are looking to get hour’s on the water just. completed day skipper coarse and compedent crew coarse this March this would help us get more experience before we get our own yacht.

    • Hello George and Marianne,
May I suggest that you come down to the TCC clubhouse with your sailing kit around 6pm on a Wednesday evening for a chance to sail with some of our members. We have an informal short race each Wednesday evening and there will most likely be someone there who will be willing to take you out for a sail. Please make yourselves known to those members in the clubhouse who will be preparing themselves for a sail. Don’t worry if you don’t have life jackets, we have spares at the club which you can borrow.

  2. Hello Billy,
I wonder if you are still interested in sailing. The 2018 TCC sailing season has just begun and we have an informal short race each Wednesday evening and there will most likely be some members there who will be willing to take you out for a sail. So, if you’re still interested please come along to the clubhouse on a Wednesday around 6pm with your sailing kit and make yourselves known to those members in the clubhouse who will be preparing themselves for a sail. Don’t worry if you don’t have a life jacket, we have spares at the club which you can borrow.

  3. Hi
Retired businessman living in Darvel. Completed RYA Ocean Yachtmaster and VHF licence course many years ago (planning to do DSC this year). About 5000 miles over 30+ yrs. including one Atlantic crossing. Some limited experience of sailing the Clyde and West coast. Probably a bit rusty having not sailed much over last years but still enthusiastic, and I make a mean ham and cheese toasty!!

    Thanks in advance

  4. I am looking for crew for a cruise to The Hebrides in June/July 2019, in a Bavaria 30, out of Largs marina. A 3-week hire is planned, but crew could join this little ship for any period, from 3 days to 3 weeks, as convenient.
Mid-summer provides the chance of long days under sail, and greater passage distances in daylight hours. Overnights are more likely to be in quiet remote anchorages, rather than in marinas.
The hope is to traverse the length of the eastern shores of the Outer Hebrides, before crossing to the mainland coast for the passage south – rounding the Mull of Kintyre in both directions. Likely calls should include the Small Isles, the Shiants, and Handa
Island. As skipper, I am familiar with these waters, from many summertime cruises through them in small yachts, over the past 20 years.
All crew members should be good swimmers, and non-smokers, aged between 5 and 95, and of either gender. An enthusiasm for sailing, and a willingness to learn, would be valuable qualities.
Crew will be expected to make a contribution towards the yacht charter fee, and their share of the costs of ship’s stores, marine diesel, and any harbour or mooring fees incurred.
Mainland pick-up / drop-off points could include Oban, Mallaig, or Kyle of Lochalsh/Plockton. Crew changes in The Hebrides might utilise Barra, Benbecula, or Stornoway.
The west coast scenery is splendid, the dolphins are wonderful, and there are no midges at sea. Plus the possibility of sighting minke, or basking shark.

    • Hi Graham,

Received your txt and WhatsApp thanks. I could manage 3-7 days in the period, fairly flexible over which 3-7 so maybe best determined by embarkation / disembarkation points that best suit the rest of your logistics and how rest of your crewing pattern pans out.

I’m still Aberdeenshire based, so mainland on/off’s probably most convenient, though I don’t mind jumping a ferry if either an on or off has to be on an island.

Since I initially posted on here I’ve completed Day Skipper (though I ended up doing that in 2018 as work got in way in 2017) and sailed a wee bit more on a Hanse 342, and am likely to have done quite a bit more by time June comes around. My Competent Crew (March 2018 in Canaries) and Day Skipper (May 2018 in Scotland) were both on Bavaria’s (37 as I recall).

  5. Billy,
If you are still interested in yacht cruising experience, perhaps you could get in touch. A Hebridean cruise in a Bavaria 30 is planned for June-July 2019. Crew inputs could be from 3 days to the full 3 weeks. See entries on the Cruising Crew pages of this TCC website. A mobile contact would be useful.

  6. Hi,

I’m new to sailing but have done a few days out before. I’m just looking to get experience and lend a hand before I undertake my day skipper and competent crew.

Any experience would be great as long term I am looking to get out on the water with my family.

    Thanks

    James

  7. Hi – I am looking to sail for short trips, occasionally longer depending on family and other commitments. I live in Troon.

I started sailing in dinghies about 60 years ago. Fairly regular yacht sailing since 1967, including Hurley 22, Brixham Trawler Provident, Mystere 26, Contessa 32, & Oyster 37. All S coast/English channel. Had a Nantucket Clipper for a couple of years, about 10 years ago!

Member of Troon Coastal Rowing last ten years.

Happy to meet for a chat whenever…

  8. I am hoping to find a crew spot on a boat sailing from Scotland to Ireland, anytime between the 13th and 16th of October and wondered if anyone in your club might be interested / doing a voyage around then?

Or alternatively any boat returning between the 21st – 23rd October!
Might be a long shot but thought I’d try!

I’m a Masters of Architecture student at Edinburgh University and bring a handful of yachting experience and good craic from around the world, mostly Australia.

    Thanks

    Hamish
