April 2023 Newsletter
Compound and Moorings – Kyle Stewart
All boats that are overwintering on our pontoon are required to return to their berths no later than Wednesday 19th of April. The general rule is at least 2 weeks before lift in these boats are to be removed but other clubhouse work has overlapped this timeline. If you have spoken to me personally with regards to the above then please ignore this request and I will discuss this with you individually.
In both December and January I reminded all boat owners that we required hard copy mooring forms no later than January 10th and should there be any extenuating circumstances to please contact me. Several members did and I was able to discuss any issues and agreed to accept electronic versions until such times as they were able to supply hard copy.
Unfortunately and rather disappointingly several members chose to ignore this and circumvent the process by not contacting me and submitting their form through the club web site. I am sorry to say that due process was not followed and by doing so you are in breach of our club policy rules and constitution your berths will now be reallocated as no hard copy of your berthing form has been received and no contact made.
These forms are required to be in no later than January 10th so moorings can be allocated, fees calculated and final numbers supplied to TYH. Without fail, year in and year out, we are not able to finalise this process in a timely manner due to numerous members failing to comply.
If you were a berth holder your boat should have been removed on or before 31 March. If your boat is still on a berth please contact me. If your boat is in the compound then on lift-in you will require to vacate the club that day and a charge will be levied for the period from March 31st until 22nd April.
Looking forward to our lift-in, we will hopefully get some good weather to allow our members to get their boats prepared. This Saturday April 8thwas the cut off point to let me know that you will not be lifting back in if you were lifted out in October. If you have any questions or require any particular assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
We welcome all members and appreciate any help that can be given. I am sure the girls in the galley will do the admirable job of keeping everyone fed and watered – as they usually do.
We intend to run mast stations on the day with provisions to allow those that do not get their masts up on the day to do so shortly afterwards.
Please make sure you have checked your wall and trot moorings and that they are of a suitable standard and ready and to go as there are no spare spaces on the pontoon.
We would ask that you use due diligence and common sense with regard to COVID and if you have symptoms or test positive do not come to the club on lift-in day.
There will be numerous work parties for various tasks once the boats are back in. More information will follow in due course.
Kind regards, Kyle Stewart (Moorings/Compound Convenor). Endorsed by George Whiteside (Commodore)
Cruising and Musters – Shug Wotherspoon
A number of musters have been planned for this season. The main focus for all weekend events is a Saturday meet up for a social – allowing Skippers and Crews to make their own way to and from the events as they see fit on the corresponding Friday/Sunday etc.
For club members who would like to participate the evening dinner events and meet us from a land aspect i.e. drive to Largs etc then simply notify me or Roddy of your intent in advance and we will factor you in on the restaurant booking.
The approximate outline of the event dates are:
- 27-28 MAY – LARGS – First club muster shake out sail, dinner at Scotts on Sat evening to sample refurbished facilities.
- 17-18 JUNE – ARRAN – Sail out and have an opportunity to conduct some anchor practice, walk up Mullach Mor summit on Holy isle and enjoy dinner at the Pier Head Tavern.
- 28 – 30 JULY – Campbeltown (Take 2) – following on from Kevin and Les’ successful sail on Spirit of Lune down the Peninsular last season, we will endeavour to get some more club boats to the Campbeltown harbour, making our own food and entertainment as we go and tying in with the local facilities.
- 26-27 AUGUST – mystery weekend – Location and events to be worked out with cryptic clues and participation by tenacious crews… a quiz night will precede this event
- 15 – 17 SEPT – TARBERT MUSIC FESTIVAL – Enjoy a sail to Tarbert harbour and soak up the festival atmosphere over the weekend – make the passage at your own pace and depart for the activity on either Fri or Sat depending on your commitments.
There may be some minor adjustments to dates which will be notified as soon as they are known.
To book or enquire about any of the club cruising activities, please contact the Cruising Convenor on 07833 482668 or at Hugh996677@gmail.com
Best wishes, Shug Wotherspoon, ably assisted by Mr Roddy Cameron Esq.
Treasurer – John Woods
The mooring bills will be coming out shortly and prompt payment is required as the money is due to be paid to the Marina. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Racing – Kyle Stewart
Dear members, we intend to have a shakedown sail event on Wed 3rd of May with Wed 10th May being the start of our racing calendar. We would encourage members to come along and sail in company enjoying the opportunities to be out on the water.
Please do not be put off by the racing, if you do not wish to race until you feel more comfortable then come along and crew on participating yachts that may have available crew places in order to build up to racing your own vessels.
On the last Wednesday of every month there will be a BBQ held. ALL Members are welcome to attend this whether you are sailing or not.
